Dates:

Rehearsal Dates: June 21 - July 3 - Tues.-Sun. 10:00am-6:00pm

Performance Dates: July 5, 2022 - July 10, 2022

Description: Located in a coastal village in Maine near the end of the 19th century, the swaggering, carefree carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, captivates and marries the gentle millworker, Julie Jordan. Billy loses his job just as he learns that Julie is pregnant and, desperately intent upon providing a decent life for his family, he is coerced into being an accomplice to a robbery. Caught in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life and is sent ‘up there.’ Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day fifteen years later, and he encounters the daughter he never knew. She is a lonely, friendless teenager, her father’s reputation as a thief and bully having haunted her throughout her young life. How Billy instills in both the child and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the power of love.

BILLY BIGELOW: Handsome, cocky, charismatic barker for Mullin’s Carousel. Proud, troubled, hard-headed, torn between right and wrong. In love with Julie Jordan.

JULIE JORDAN: Quiet, naïve mill worker who falls in love with Billy Bigelow. Julie has an inner strength and maturity in the second act as the mother of fifteen-year-old Louise.

CARRIE PIPPERIDGE: Lively, funny friend and coworker of Julie Jordan. In love with Enoch Snow, Carrie offers a light-hearted balance to Julie’s seriousness.

ENOCH SNOW: Bumbling, adorably shy fisherman with big plans for the future. A successful and somewhat pompous business owner in the second act.

NETTIE FOWLER: Soft-hearted, hearty coastal woman who owns and runs a seaside business. Nettie is Julie’s strength throughout the show. Motherly figure to Julie.

JIGGER CRAIGIN: A dangerous, menacing seaman friend of Billy’s who ultimately leads Billy astray. A con man with a bit of humor and an eye for Carrie Pipperidge.

MRS. MULLINS: A middle-aged widow and owner of the carousel. Jealous of Billy’s attraction to Julie.

MR. BASCOMBE: The very strict owner of the local textile mill where Julie, Carrie, and the other girls work.

LOUISE: Daughter of Julie and Billy, headstrong and not accepted by her peers. Very good dancer.

ENOCH SNOW, JR.: Son of Enoch and Carrie. He likes Louise but thinks she is beneath his station.

STARKEEPER/DR. SELDON: Heavenly figure to guide Billy. Dr. Seldon is the earthy version of the Starkeeper.

HEAVENLY FRIEND: Angel sent to bring Billy to the Starkeeper after Billy’s death.

CARNIVAL BOY: Boy who looks like Billy and is a member of a passing carnival; dances with Louise during the ballet sequence. Major dance role.

SNOW CHILDREN: Enoch and Carrie's children of various ages.

ENSEMBLE: All types and vocal ranges. Townspeople, including the girls from the mill, seafaring men, policemen, ship captain, principal, etc.
