SEEKING

SEEKING UNDERSTUDIES FOR ALL ROLES.

SAMMY (50s / Male / White) -- A quick-witted, self-serving lawyer whose moral compass points to me, me, and me. When faced with eternal damnation, he finds a loophole to get another chance at redemption. But try as he might, doing good just doesn't come naturally. Acerbic, unapologetic, habitually argumentative, but practical. THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST BUT WE ARE SEEKING HIS UNDERSTUDY.

FATHER MICHAEL (40s / Male / Any Ethnicity) -- A priest who genuinely wants to leave the world better than he found it. Feels the pain of others deeply. But his secret crisis of faith has him off-balance and touchier than he would like to admit. His sometimes dry wit masks his giant heart. Wry, skeptical, but kind.

MONSIGNOR / NEIGHBOR (50s-60s / Male / Any Ethnicity) -- An earnest leader in the Catholic faith. He believes strict rules help avoid temptation, so why bend them? Serious and paternal.

JACKSON / DOCTOR (40s-50s / Male / Any Ethnicity) -- An insurance claims adjuster. He has the world weariness of a career bureaucrat. Leads a mundane existence, but secretly hungry for a bit of stimulation. Has never had any luck with the ladies. Recently underwent a crisis with the loss of his mother that led him to do minimal soul searching, but not enough to give him an ounce of empathy. The doctor makes a brief appearance as a capable emergency room cardiologist.

ANGEL (60s / Female / White) -- A former Catholic School nun, now a magnificent angel. Some time ago, child-aged Sammy was her most ungovernable pupil, and she relishes the chance to gleefully bar the gates of Heaven to him at his death. Ecstatically vindictive, nasty, and fanatical, straight out of a child's nightmare.

DELLA / PRINCIPAL (30s-50s / Female / Black) -- Della is Sammy's secretary. She knows her boss is unethical, but a job's a job, and she says a lot by not saying much. Approaches Sammy’s numerous transgressions with a fatalistic attitude. Wry, dry, never misses a beat. The principal makes a brief appearance as a conscientious administrator who feels Casper is doing harm to her school.

TRACY / MOTHER / NURSE (40s / Female / Any Ethnicity) -- Sammy's ex-wife, now doing what she can to make ends meet as a diner waitress and single mom of a troublesome son. Had a bad habit of falling for fast-talkers and isn't looking to repeat the same mistake. But wants to do right by her kid. Ground down, but keeping it together. The mother makes a brief appearance as a privileged and easily-affronted woman who spoils her daughter. The nurse makes a brief appearance as an attentive emergency room attendant.

EDNA (70s-80s / Female / White) -- A defenseless widow in danger of losing her home. Grief and age leave her ill-equipped to deal with a corporate insurance behemoth. Vulnerable, trusting, and a devout Catholic.

CASPER (9 years old / Male / White or Biracial depending on the casting of Tracy) -- Son of Tracy and, unbeknownst to him, Sammy. Smart-mouthed, he's perpetually in trouble. Longing for a father figure, but doesn't know it. Street smart, a little insubordinate, but has a tender heart underneath that is revealed when Sammy bonds with him.
