SEEKING UNDERSTUDIES TO COVER THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
ONE WOMAN (20s) TO COVER THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
OPHELIA (HAMLET): Polonius’s daughter. In love with Hamlet. She is very sensitive, and deeply affected by the issues going on around her. Her struggle to determine to whom to remain loyal ends in her ultimate demise.
ELECTRA (ORESTEIA): The daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra and sister of Orestes and Iphigenia. Deeply loyal to her father and affected by his death.
GUILDENSTERN (HAMLET): A friend of Hamlet’s from school. He and Rosencrantz are brought to Denmark to serve as informants on Hamlet’s behaviors to the king, but ultimately fall into a trap and are killed.
DOCTOR (ORESTEIA): Guides Orestes through the retelling and reliving of his past traumas.
BERNARDO (HAMLET): One of the guards who witnesses the ghost of King Hamlet.
PLAYER 3 (HAMLET): One of the actors in the play that Hamlet puts on for Gertrude and Claudius
CASSANDRA (ORESTEIA): Reminiscent of Iphigenia after her death. Sees the ancestral curse that Agamemnon has on his family and acts as a prophesier.
ONE WOMAN (50s) TO COVER THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
GERTRUDE (HAMLET): The Queen of Denmark. Mother of Prince Hamlet, widow to King Hamlet. Her marriage to the Kings brother, Claudius, so soon after her first husband’s death sparks questions about her integrity, strength, and loyalty.
KLYTEMNESTRA (ORESTEIA): Wife of Agamemnon and mother to Iphigenia, Electra, and Orestes. Is driven to murder Agamemnon to avenge the death of her daughter Iphigeneia.
PLAYER QUEEN (HAMLET): Plays Queen Gertrude in the play that Hamlet puts on for the real King and Queen.
FURY (ORESTEIA): God of revenge. Wants all wrongs to be avenged.
ONE MAN (20s) TO COVER THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
MARCELLUS (HAMLET): One of the guards who witnesses the ghost of King Hamlet.
PRIEST (HAMLET): The priest who preforms the burial rituals for Ophelia. Abiding but reluctant
CALCHAS (ORESTEIA): A seer. Identifies that Agamemnon must sacrifice his eldest daughter to appease the gods. Remains on stage for the duration of the play to guide the characters through the action.
HORATIO (HAMLET): A close friend to Hamlet and extremely loyal to him throughout the play. Alive at the end of the play and will carry on Hamlet’s story.
TALTHYBIUS (ORESTEIA): A soldier and friend to Agamemnon, who acts as a herald and a messenger.
ROSENCRANTZ (HAMLET): A friend of Hamlet’s from school. He and Guildenstern are brought to Denmark to serve as informants on Hamlet’s behaviors to the king, but ultimately fall into a trap and are killed.
REYNALDO (HAMLET): Polonius’s servant. Sent to France to spy on Laertes for Polonius
OSRIC (HAMLET): The foolish courtier who summons Hamlet to his duel with Laertes.
ONE MAN (50s) TO COVER THE FOLLOWING ROLES:
CLAUDIUS (HAMLET): Hamlet’s uncle and new stepfather. Assumed the position of king after his brother’s death. A leader and a seductress, he wins unearned trust from those around him.
AGAMEMNON (ORESTEIA): Husband of Klytemnestra and father to Iphigenia, Electra, and Orestes. Overly manly and very ambitious. Sacrifices his eldest daughter, Iphigenia, to the gods.
POLONIUS (HAMLET): Ophelia and Laertes’s father. Advisor to King Claudius. Famous for giving advice that is filled with cliches and hypocrisy.
MENELAUS (ORESTEIA): Younger brother of Agamemnon. Believes strongly that Agamemnon’s sacrifice of Iphigenia was completely necessary and for the good of the entire universe.
GHOST (HAMLET): The ghost of Hamlet’s deceased father. A strong and well-respected leader. He returns from beyond the grave to encourage his son to investigate the injustices of his murder and take action against those who have wronged him.
PLAYER KING (HAMLET): Plays King Claudius in the play that Hamlet puts on for the real King and Queen.
FRANCISCO (HAMLET): One of the guards who witnesses the ghost of King Hamlet.
GRAVEDIGGER (HAMLET): A witty working-class man with a morbid sense of humor.
SEEKING FOUR CHILDREN TO PLAY THE FOLLOWING TWO ROLES:
ORESTES (YOUNG) (Male, 8-10) (ORESTEIA): Plays Orestes in the flashbacks of his life. Son of Agamemnon and Klytemnestra, brother of Electra and Iphigenia. Smart and curious.
IPHIGENIA (Female, 6-8) (ORESTEIA): Daughter of Agamemnon and Klytemnestra, sister of Orestes and Electra. Very curious about her surroundings. Not afraid to ask questions. Seeking actors who sing.
