SPECIAL NOTES

On Identity: The Latine diaspora runs far and wide. That said, though the ethnicities of these characters are listed and are important to the storytelling, we encourage Latine actors to audition for the roles they feel most comfortable with playing. We will be addressing the specifics in the room about how these identities will be brought to life. Con cariño.

On Dialects: ESTELLA is the only one who might have a touch in her English. MARIANA, CAROLINA, and JUAN in their specific Spanish dialects. They are all excellent code-switchers. We will not be asking for accents for auditions.

On Movement: Regarding style, the playwright notes everyone should always be a moment away from dancing. That said, we will be playing with Latin dance styles in transitions between scenes. Familiarity with those dances and comfortability with dancing is helpful! There will be a dance consultant provided in rehearsal.

ROLES

[MARIANA] She/her. Late 20s - early 30s. Half Colombian/Half Jewish. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Born in Miami. Still there, trying to make a name for herself. Daughter to ESTELLA. They have a complicated relationship. Love interest to JENNY. Director of Studio Six, an art gallery participating in Art Basel. Determined to make it in the art world, anxiously so. With the stress, she may pop. Uptight. A masterful code-switcher according to her needs.

[ESTELLA] She/her. Mid 40s - mid 50s. Colombian. Heritage Spanish speaker. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Born in Medellín. A movie star. A good one actually. Mari's mom. Glamorous and she knows it. Often too much, but most people are charmed by it... except MARIANA.
