NOTE: All actors need to be excellent with Shakespearean language. This play will be performed with the actors’ natural accents. Roles may be doubled.

KING HENRY IV (50-60): Male. King and father of Prince Hal. Prematurely aged by worry guilt. Regal and proud.

PRINCE HAL (30-40): Male. Eldest son of King Henry IV and heir to the throne. Intelligent, fierce, sportive, inescapably noble.

SIR JOHN FALSTAFF (50-60): Male. Knight and friend of Prince Hal. A sage and a fool with a talent for language. CAST

HOTSPUR (30-40): Male. Son and heir of the Earl of Northumberland and the nephew of the Earl of Worcester. Straightforward and relentless.

EARL OF WORCESTOR (40-50): Female or Male. Uncle to Hotspur. Shrewd and manipulative. A strategist.

EARL OF WESTMORELAND/BARDOLPH (40-50): Female or Male. Doubled role. Westmoreland is a nobleman to King Henry. Loyal. Bardolph is highwayman and friend to Falstaff and Prince Hal.

EARL OF NORTHUMBERLAND/ OWEN GLENDOWER/ SHERRIF (40-50). Male. Northumberland is the father of Hotspur. Leader in the rebellion. Glendower is a loyal lord of the King. Superstitious. Sherriff patrols the town and pubs.

PRINCE JOHN/GADSHILL (20-30): Male. Doubled role. Prince John is the younger son of King Henry and brother to Prince Hal. Valiant solider. Wise. Gadshill is a highwayman.

SIR WALTER BLUNT/EDMUND MORTIMER (30-40): Male. Doubled role. Blunt is a warrior and an ally of the king. Trustworthy. Mortimer is the son-in-law of Glendower. On the side of the rebellion.

POINS/SIR RICHARD VERNON (30-40): Female or Male. Doubled role. Poins is a highwayman. Vernon is a relative and ally of Worcester.

PETO/DOUGLAS (30-40): Female or Male. Peto is a highwayman and friend of Prince Hal and Falstaff. Douglass is a leader of Scottish rebels against the King. Fearless.

MISTRESS QUICKLY (30-40): Female. Hostess at the tavern.

LADY PERCY/ENSEMBLE (20-30): Female. Wife of Hotspur.

LADY MORTIMER/ENSEMBLE (20-30). Female. Daughter of Glendower.

Additional roles of servants, messengers, lords, attendants and soldiers to be doubled among the cast.

ANTONIO SALIERI (30-40): Male. Composer and kapellmeister for the emperor of Austria. Cultured and ambitious. A religious man, until God no longer serves him. CAST

WOLFGANG AMEDEUS MOZART (30-40): Male. A child prodigy brilliant composer from Salzburg, Austria. Cavalier, confident, and ambitious. Remains true to his musical craft.

CONSTANZE WEBER (20-30): Female. Supportive wife of Mozart. Young, practical, and responsible.

JOSEPH II (30-40): Male. Emperor of Austria. Supporter of Mozart

COUNT JOHANN KILLIAN VON STRACK (30-40): Male. Groom of the Imperial Chamber.

BARON GOTTFRIED VAN SWIETEN (30-40): Male. Prefect of the Imperial Library. Cultured and serious.

KAPELLMEISTER GUISEPPE BONNO (30-40): Male. Royal Choral director.

TWO VENTICELLI (20-30): Male/Female. Purveyors of information and gossip for Salieri

TERESA SALIERI (20-30): Female. Wife of Salieri

KATHERINA CAVALIERI (20-30): Female. Pupil of Salieri who has affairs with both Salieri and Mozart.

ENSEMLE (20-40): Male/Female. Various servants and citizens

MISTRESS FORD (30-40): Female. Wife of Ford and lady of Falstaff’s wooing. Sportive and loyal. Must have comedic ability.

FORD (30-40): Male. Husband of Mistress Ford and gentleman of Windsor. Masks insecurity and jealousy in bravado. Must have comedic ability.

MISTRESS PAGE (30-40): Female. Wife of Page and lady of Falstaff’s wooing. Cleaver. CAST

PAGE (30-40): Male. Husband of Mistress Page and gentleman of Windsor. Confident and easy-going. Occasionally, stubborn.

ANNE/ JOHN RUGBY (20-30): Female. Doubled role. Anne is the daughter of Page and Mistress Page, as well as the lady of Fenton, Caius, and Slender’s wooing. Independent and clever. John Rugby is servant to Doctor Caius.

SIMPLE/ WILLIAM (20-30): Female. Simple is the dedicated servant to Slender. William is the son of Page and Mistress Page.

DOCTOR CAIUS / BARDOLPH (40-50): Male. Doctor Caius is a French physician and suitor of Anne Page. Bardolph is a friend of Falstaff. CAST

MISTRESS QUICKLY (30-40): Female. Servant to Doctor Caius. CAST

HUGH EVANS (40-50): Male. A Welsh clergyman. Speaks with an accent. CAST

HOST (20-30): Male. Enjoys a good practical joke. Cheerful owner of a pub.

FALSTAFF (50-60): Male. A farcical knight that attempts to woo Mistresses Ford and Page. CAST

SHALLOW (40-50): Male. Visiting Justice of the Peace. Has class, but not necessarily wit.

NYM / FENTON (20-30): Male. Doubled role. Nym is a thief and servant for Falstaff. Fenton is a young lover and the romantic interest of Anne Page.

PISTOL / SLENDER (30-40): Male. Doubled role. Pistol is servant to Falstaff. Honest. Slender is a suitor to Anne Page. Uneasy with women.
