Prepare a song in the traditional musical theater style. Bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose. Girls auditioning for the role of SARAH, sides will be provided at the audition.

Seeking:
RAYMOND DEAGAN:
Mid 30s- Mid 40s. Male. African-American. Handsome. Compassionate. Implicitly decent, with gravitas––but also lightness. Must sing exceptionally well. High Baritone, to an A-flat.
FRANK WHITAKER:
Mid 30’s to 40. Male. All American. Handsome. A successful business man. Married to Cathy. Harboring a dark secret. Must have a superb high baritone voice, and the ability to sing in various styles. Vocal range: low “E” to high “A”
JANICE WHITAKER:
Female. About 8 years old, or slightly older, but able to play younger. Cathy and Frank’s daughter. Spunky little American girl of the late fifties. Must sing very well.
DAVID WHITAKER:
Male. About 11 years old. Cathy and Frank’s son. Bicycle-riding, dungarees-wearing American early adolescent. Perfectly period. Must sing well.
STAN FINE:
Late 30’s to mid 40’s. Male. Eleanor’s husband. Successful suburban business man with a 1950’s sensibility. Also plays other roles. Must be an excellent singer. Baritone.
DICK DAWSON:
Mid 30’s to mid 40’s. Male. Suave and charming man. Also plays other roles, including a Latin-style vocalist with a band. Must be excellent singer.
NANCY:
30’s to 40. Female. Connecticut suburban homemaker. Friend of Cathy. Plays additional roles. Must be an excellent singer with belt/mix.
MONA LAUDER:
Mid 40’s to 60. Female. Town gossip. Plays additional roles. Must be an excellent singer
SARAH:
About 10 or 11 years old. African-American. Raymond’s daughter. Lovely and shy. Non-singing role.

20’s- 30’s. African-American. Male. Bar employee and musician. Plays additional roles. Must be an excellent singer.
CHASE:
25 to 30. Male. Attractive and well built. Young romantic leading man. Plays additional roles. Should Sing.

CATHY WHITAKER:
CAST. Female. Mid 30’s; seemingly perfect American housewife; beautiful, poised, and gracious––but with a complicated inner life. Must have glorious, legit soprano (to F-sharp) as well as earthier lower register (to G below Middle C); vocally demanding role.
ELEANOR FINE:
CAST. Late 30’s to 45. Female. Cathy’s best friend. Worldly. Sophisticated and no nonsense. Has money instead of children. Sharp wit. Excellent singer. Alto with a mix.
SYBIL:
CAST. Mid-30s. Female. African-American. In most ways, Raymond’s female counterpart. Must be a good singer. Alto with a mix as well.
MRS LEACOCK:
CAST. 60’s to 70. Female. A reporter and local Society editor. Plays additional roles. Must be a strong, legit singer.
MORRIS FARNSWORTH:
CAST. Late 50’s to mid 60’s. Male. Mona’s eccentric older uncle. Plays additional roles. Must be an excellent singer.
DOREEN:
CAST 30’s to 40. Female. Connecticut suburban homemaker. Friend of Cathy. Ditzy. Plays additional roles. Must be an excellent singer with belt/mix. Also plays CONNIE: 20s. Flirtatious receptionist. A babe. Plays additional roles. Must be an excellent singer.
ESTHER:
CAST. 20’s. African-American. Female. Acquaintance of Raymond. Plays additional roles. Must be excellent singer.
