Breakdown

For both available roles:
LA LOCAL HIRES ONLY – must live within 50 miles of the Ahmanson Theatre

Set in 1968- Judy Garland in London, for a series of performances shortly before her death


SEEKING:

ONE ACTOR PLAYS ALL THREE ON STAGE ROLES + ANTHONY UNDERSTUDY: Mid-40s to mid 50s. Excellent British accent.
BBC Interviewer: Friendly and warm and cuddly voice, casual and smooth. Popular with British housewives. Still he has a bit of a reporter’s edge and loves to scoop his guests’ private lives, a sexy sound bite increases his popularity on the radio.
(Hotel) Porter: Overworked and put upon bellhop
Assistant stage manager: Gay stage manager, sarcastic, prickly, has a short fuse.
Understudy Anthony (role played by Michael Cumpsty): English pianist, who is accompanying Judy Garland in London. Smart professional and sensitive. Cares and tries to protect Judy from her demons.
ONE ACTOR PLAYS ALL THREE ON STAGE ROLES + ANTHONY UNDERSTUDY

MALE UNDERSTUDY: 30s-40s. Must have excellent British accent. Covers- BBC Interviewer, Porter and Stage Manager. (see description above)
Also understudy for Mickey Deans, Judy’s American fiancé. Oily character, with an offbeat sexuality. His substance use is a bad influence on Judy. 30s with an American accent.
Understudies will rehearse twice a week post-opening, and must be at the theatre for each performance.
There are no guaranteed performances for understudies.
