UMS To Offer Free Livestream Of BUBBLE SCHMEISIS From The Schvitz

The University Musical Society (UMS) will offer a free online livestream of Nick Cassenbaum's sold-out performance of Bubble Schmeisis on Thursday, March 22 at 7:30 pm. The performance will be streamed live from the Schvitz in Detroit at ums.org/live and via Facebook Live at facebook.com/UMSNews. Viewers may register in advance at ums.org/live to receive an email reminder shortly before the livestream begins. An archived version of the livestream will be made available for later viewing.

Writer and street performer Nick Cassenbaum joins forces with a duo of klezmer musicians for a journey of self-discovery in the warmth of the Schvitz in Detroit, one of the country's few remaining traditional bath houses, which has been in operation for over 85 years. Among the steam and the ritual, Nick will take audiences on a journey to find the place where he belongs. Bubble Schmeisis is full of intimate and personal true stories about identity, home, and getting schmeised (washed) by old men.

This livestream is funded in part by The Wallace Foundation.

A recipient of the 2014 National Medal of Arts, UMS (also known as the University Musical Society) contributes to a vibrant cultural community by connecting audiences with performing artists from around the world in uncommon and engaging experiences. One of the oldest performing arts presenters in the country, UMS is an independent non-profit organization affiliated with the University of Michigan, presenting over 70 music, theater, and dance performances by professional touring artists each season, along with over 100 free educational activities. UMS is committed to bold artistic leadership, engaged learning through the arts, and access and inclusiveness. Since 1990, the organization has co-commissioned and supported the production of nearly 80 new or reimagined works. Matthew VanBesien joined UMS as its seventh president in July 2017.
