RED HOT SUMMER NIGHT in February at Detroit Repertory Theatre

The Detroit Repertory Theatre Board of Trustees' is hosting its Annual Red Night Benefit Celebration and Performance on Saturday, February 10, 2018. The Theatre welcomes the public to an evening of comedy, drama, romance, poetry, a silent auction, champagne and appetizers at the Board of Trustees' annual Red Night benefit beginning at 7:30 pm.

There will be a "reddest red" contest so guests are encouraged to wear the color of love. Tickets are $35 each and may be purchased online at detroitreptheatre.com or with Visa or MasterCard by calling the Repertory Box Office at (313) 868-1347. There is no surcharge.

This year's Annual Red Night Benefit Celebration's theme, a "Red Hot Summer Night", embodies the Rep's commitment with the Midwest Premiere production of Dauphin Island by Jeffry Chastang, an award-winning, local playwright. The all inclusive evening will begin at 7:30 pm with champagne and delectable southern style appetizers, a Red Hot Poetic performance by Brenda Perryman, a silent auction, the "reddest red" contest, and a presentation to the 2018 Irma Wertz "Patron of the Year" honoree. At 8:30 pm, the curtain will open on the main event of the evening, Dauphin Island.

After the play, the "reddest red" contest and silent auction winners will be announced while guests enjoy chocolate during the champagne afterglow with cast, crew and playwright.

All funds raised from this benefit will be used by the Detroit Repertory Board to help support the Theatre and the community activities and events that it promotes, including the Annual Community Street Fair and the Legendary Actors' Workshop.

Suspicion and fascination dovetail when Selwyn interrupts the self-imposed isolation of Kendra. Leaving behind a messy divorce and time spent living in his car in Detroit, he embarks on a trip for a new beginning. When his car breaks down, he happens upon Kendra, a woman who has secluded herself in the Alabama woods. The play follows the two displaced characters as their lives begin to unexpectedly intertwine. The result is a loving look at humanity, but not the saccharine sort of love we so often see on the big and small screen. It is a look at the ability of those laid low to try and rebuild, and their willingness to both understand the faults of others and to be willing to help them recreate themselves.
