The Purple Rose Theatre Company is proud to announce their production of the World Premiere comedy Wake by Carey Crim this summer. The production will enjoy an eleven-week engagement from Thursday, June 18 through Saturday, August 29, 2009.

Seven low-price previews of Wake will be performed from Thursday, June 18, through Thursday, June 25, with the Press Opening on Friday, June 26, 2009. Regular performances for the duration of the engagement are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm with Saturday matinees at 3:00 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. All performances are held at The Purple Rose Theatre Company, 137 Park Street, Chelsea, Michigan 48118.

In this summer comedy, Molly Harrison is an agoraphobic mortician, anchored to the safety of her funeral home for over three years. Her vivacious mother and precocious teenage daughter try in their own humorous ways to help her take that first step down the front walk, including hypnosis, sensory-overload therapy and a trip to Moscow. But in the end, Molly must realize what is truly important in her life before the power of love can finally inspire her to embrace the world again.

Wake marks artistic director Guy Sanville's 32nd directorial effort for the PRTC and the 23rd PRTC production to make its World Premiere under his direction. "Wake is a beautiful, soulful, heartfelt comedy about life and death and everything in between," he says.

The cast of Wake features PRTC associate artist Stacie Hadgikosti (Roseville, MI), Brenda Lane (Northville, MI), Alex Leydenfrost (Ann Arbor, MI), resident artist Michelle Mountain (Madison, WI / Chelsea, MI), Frank David Obelnicki (Detroit, MI), Sandy Ryder (Ann Arbor, MI) and Bill Simmons (Indianapolis, IN).

Design for this production includes set by Vincent Mountain, properties by Danna Segrest, costumes by Christianne Myers, lighting by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Quintessa Gallinat. Stephanie Buck stage manages with Michelle DiDomenico as assistant stage manager.
