Yamulee Dance School

Yamulee Dance Company is a New York salsa school and performance company based at 2435 Grand Concourse in the Bronx, directed by Osmar Perrones. The name Yamulee has African roots meaning festive, joyous and free-spirited. Teaching centers on New York mambo and salsa, with a class structure that emphasises fundamentals before progression: beginner Basics classes, intermediate and advanced shines and partner-work, styling and body movement co-ed classes, a Wednesday spinning technique class covering pivot mechanics and leading, social dancing turn patterns, and a performance class. Youth classes run on Saturdays with Yamu KIDS for ages 4 to 10 and Yamu Teen for ages 11 to 17. The school fields tiered performance teams, Guarikiten for students learning fundamentals, Bajari for technique and styling, and the Yamulee professional team, which performs at salsa congresses, socials and private events worldwide. Yamulee also hosts monthly socials and the B.I.G. New York Salsa Festival, and has advertised free beginner classes.
