About this studio
Cultured Movement is a Bronx-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose motto is 'Cultural Competence Via the Art of Dance'. It immerses women and girls in African-Indigenous culture through dance, aiming to promote healthy bodies, self-esteem, positive self-image, cultural awareness and a deeper understanding of dance as an art form, and holds that every girl in New York City should have access to world-class instruction regardless of socio-economic status. Its Cultured Youth program pairs dance with a geographical and historical education component, covering forms such as Aboriginal dance, Egyptian dance, flamenco and African drum-based movement.
