Uptown Dance operates from 7417 Shadyvilla Lane in Houston, Texas, with two arms: Uptown Dance Center, a school running for 26 years offering classes for ages 2.5 through adult, and Uptown Dance Company, which presents contemporary, diverse and innovative dance works. The school's course of study begins with 45-minute Creative Movement classes for ages 2.5-4 and 4-5 that use ballet-based vocabulary while exploring many movement forms, and continues through ballet, pointe, jazz, modern and contemporary training. Open ballet and open modern classes need no registration, and private lessons are available. Students audition for the Pre-Professional Company (roughly ages 11-19), which performs in The Nutcracker, Spring Fusion, Variation Night and the annual recital.
