About this studio
The Starz Program was founded in 2005 by former Virginia Beach health and physical education teacher Sophia Wastler, after she observed that children with an early foundation in sport and movement showed higher self-esteem and stronger academic and social outcomes. Rather than operating a conventional studio, Starz delivers fitness-based enrichment classes on site at public and private schools and other facilities, using proprietary curricula in dance, sports skills, cheer, fitness, yoga and gymnastics. The program is aimed at preschool and young school-age children and emphasises whole-child development: fitness, confidence, creativity and social-emotional well-being. Launched in Hampton Roads and later expanded to Richmond, it is now franchised across the United States, and was named rvAwesome Founder of the Year in December 2018.
