Ajna Tribal

Ajna Tribal is Richmond, Virginia's professional Fat Chance Belly Dance / American Tribal Style (FCBD Style) belly dance company. The troupe performs, teaches and runs workshops in this improvisational group form, in which formatted steps, cues, eye contact and familiar musical phrasing let dancers build a synchronised improvised piece each time they dance. It is directed by Janine Turner, who runs an FCBD Sister/Partner Studio and is a certified FCBD instructor; she trains with FCBD advanced instructors and passes that training on to assistant directors, troupe members and students, with two troupe members, Stephanie and Missy, also leading classes. The company performs at professional and community events of all sizes, adapting to varied spaces, themes and venues, and is known for its distinctive costuming and adornment. Level 1 classes are open to newcomers of all backgrounds, abilities and skill sets, with a class schedule published on the site.
