Sunshine Dance Center, LLC was established in 1972 in Waterbury, Connecticut and is now in its 55th school year, having taught five generations of local families. It moved about six years ago from 34 Monroe Avenue to Suites 5-6, 451 Meriden Road in Waterbury. Founded by Sheila Tetreault, it is now run by owner-directors Jacqueline Downs (Miss Peaches) and Emily Summa with a sizeable teaching staff. The studio provides professional-quality instruction to dancers of all ages and skill levels in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip-hop, acro and fitness, plus a Wee Dance class for the youngest students, and describes its aim as building confidence, teamwork, leadership and stage presence. Private lessons, a competition team, an annual recital and studio parties are also offered.
Pa'lante Theater Company, Connecticut's first and only Afro-Latine Black Box theater company, presents VIVA Broadway, a song-and-dance-filled musical revue celebrating Black and Latine musicals.
