Studio 33 Ltd

Studio 33 Ltd. is an adult ballroom studio at 3609 Portage Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan, founded in 1990 by Donald and Lydia Decker, who had begun teaching professionally in the late 1950s with Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray studios in the Chicago, Cleveland and Kalamazoo areas. The business started in their home at 3301 Portage, which gave the studio its name, and in 1998 they bought and converted the former Milwood Church of God two blocks away; its centrepiece is a custom floating hardwood floor imported from Denmark, alongside a tropical mural in the lobby. Teaching covers American, Latin American and International style dances - foxtrot, waltz, Viennese waltz, quickstep, swing, hustle, samba, rumba, mambo, tango, salsa, cumbia, cha-cha and merengue - through group and private lessons and dance seminars for singles and couples. The studio has hosted hundreds of Friday and Saturday ballroom parties, offers a free trial lesson, and is a member of the National Dance Council of America.
