About this studio
Southern California Ballet (SCB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit ballet school and company at 12285 World Trade Drive in San Diego. Founded in 1983 as Black Mountain Dance Center, it has focused throughout on full-length, performance-oriented professional training. The academy takes students from about age three to eighteen with year-round enrollment, teaching the levelled SCB syllabus with annual assessments by professional experts, from Creative Ballet for the youngest up to a pre-professional company level, plus a boys' program and a path-to-pointe track. Artistic directors Martha Leebolt and Toby Batley are former principal dancers with Northern Ballet. Students perform in three productions a year, and adult classes, summer intensives and adaptive dance are also offered.
