Culture Shock Dance Troupe, Inc

Culture Shock San Diego is a 501(c)(3) non-profit hip hop dance organization founded in 1993 and the originator of the worldwide Culture Shock International network. It describes itself as a troupe of individuals who, through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity and respect for all people, and it uses dance for education, entertainment and empowerment to inspire positive change in the communities it serves. Alongside performance and community outreach it runs the Culture Shock San Diego Training Academy, offering a timetable of hip hop classes with published class descriptions, rates and policies, a work-study program for students who need help with fees, masterclasses and summer camps. Dancers can audition for its family of troupes, which spans Culture Shock San Diego for adults and the youth companies Future Shock, Mighty Shock and Mini Shock, and the organization also runs the Shock Undeveloped program and stages events such as the annual Shock Value Showcase and Shock'N The Park. Its studio walls feature work by internationally known graffiti artists.
