About this studio
Sharron Miller's Academy for the Performing Arts (SMAPA) is a Black woman-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance school at 10 Erie Street in Montclair, New Jersey, led by artistic director Sharron Miller. It provides comprehensive, inclusive developmental training in dance and related theater arts to students at every stage of life, organized into four divisions: preschool for ages 2 to 5, junior for 6 to 12, teens for 13 to 18 and adults for 19 and up. Faculty teach ballet, modern including Horton technique, tap and Iyengar yoga, and classes run from absolute beginner to advanced in what the school describes as a supportive, non-competitive environment.
