Norman Ballet Company

Norman Ballet Company is a non-profit community ballet company formed in 1984 in Norman, Oklahoma, marking its 40th anniversary. Its mission is to give professional performing experiences to young, aspiring dancers across Central Oklahoma and to make professional-level ballet an accessible part of the region's cultural life through community outreach. Rather than running its own weekly school, the company holds auditions open to all area dancers, with notifications sent to dance studios throughout Central Oklahoma. Artistic Director and choreographer Marjorie Kovich has led the company since its inception, staging original works including The Little Prince, The Secret Garden, The Red Shoes, Images of Oklahoma Past and The Oklahoma Nutcracker, alongside re-staged classics such as Cinderella, Firebird and Coppelia. Guest artists from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Tulsa Ballet and other professional companies have appeared in its productions, and former company dancers have gone on to professional companies, Broadway and university dance degrees. Its annual Oklahoma Nutcracker at the Nancy O'Brian Center includes a Sand Plum Fairy Tea Party.
