About this studio
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago grew out of the Lou Conte Dance Studio at LaSalle and Hubbard Streets in 1977, when Lou Conte gathered four dancers to perform in senior centers across Chicago. Conte directed the company for 23 years, building relationships with choreographers including Nacho Duato, Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Twyla Tharp. Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, a former company dancer, became the fourth artistic director in 2021. The contemporary dance company has performed in 19 countries and 44 US states, performs about 20 times a year in Chicago, and runs education programs in roughly 50 classrooms across 17 Chicagoland schools. Other activity includes summer intensives for teens and adults, school residencies and a Parkinson's Project.
