John Hayes O'Neill Studio of Dance is at 218 West Dominick Street in Rome, New York, and is in its 39th year. Classical ballet is the focal point of the studio; its artistic and associate directors trained at major dance institutions and the curriculum runs from barre and center work through pre-pointe, pointe, classical variations from ballets such as Don Quixote, Swan Lake and Le Corsaire, and pas de deux partnering. Younger children start in a Mommy & Me class for ages 2-3, where a parent or carer joins the class, and progress to Pre-K creative movement for ages 4-5. Older students add modern, jazz, tap, acro and body conditioning, with youth, advanced and private tracks available. The studio stages annual productions including The Nutcracker with a school matinee and a June performance, and runs summer programs and intensives plus drop-in classes for advanced students and adults 18 and over.
