Jane Franklin Dance

Jane Franklin Dance was a contemporary dance company active in the Washington DC metropolitan area from 1997 until it closed operations in Arlington, Virginia on September 1, 2025. Founded by Jane Franklin, the 501(c)(3) organization made collaborative work with musicians, media and visual artists and community participants, including projects with the round-wall skateboarding community, life-size kinetic sculpture, site-specific architecture, dogs and their owners, and interactive live video and sound. It performed at regional venues and festivals and internationally in Mexico, and received the Virginia Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts along with support from the Virginia, Alexandria and Arlington arts commissions. Its education work included the Forty+ Project of free health-focused movement sessions at senior centers, classes for active older adults and performance opportunities for dancers over 40, plus summer camps and after-school programs for children. The remaining entity now operates from Santa Fe, New Mexico as an arts advocacy and artist-support organization.
