Houston Silambam

Silambam Houston is an Indian arts organization with its administrative office at 3400 Main Street in Houston, Texas, and studio locations at the Silambam Houston Cultural Arts Center in Pearland and the Houston Center for Musical Arts on Heights Boulevard. It describes its mission as promoting Indian arts traditions, building a multicultural audience for them, passing the culture, history and artistry of these traditions to the next generation, and helping emerging artists find pathways to professionalism. Its Arts Academy teaches the Indian classical dance forms Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi and Mohiniattam alongside Carnatic and Hindustani music, with group and private classes, an Arts Apprenticeship Program and a performing Company. Students mark their solo debut with a Ranga Pravesham, and the organization holds an annual student showcase, Pragati Maarga, which featured over 100 performers in June 2026. Company dancers have performed at the Chennai Margazhi festival and at Houston venues including the Hobby Center and Miller Outdoor Theatre. Outreach includes K-12 programs, Dancing Into STEM and Storytime With Silambam. It has been recognized as a Houston Cultural Treasure by the BIPOC Arts Network and Fund.
