About this studio
Decatur School of Ballet has operated continuously since 1947 and is the oldest classical ballet school in DeKalb County, Georgia. It was founded by Hilda Gumm and Marie Roberts above an ice cream shop in downtown Decatur, bought in 1980 by Kathleen and Ron Everett, and purchased in 2018 by Leslie Palmer Gourley, who had studied and taught there since 1980. Now at 141 Sams Street, it teaches children, teens and adults in classical ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, modern, lyrical, creative movement, swing and Scottish Highland dance. It runs a ten-month curriculum from August to May with summer programs and an annual performance, placing each student by individual evaluation.
