Dance classes in Des Moines, Iowa
Ballet Des Moines is Iowa's only resident professional ballet company, based at the Lauridsen Campus for Arts and Education at 655 Walnut Street in downtown Des Moines. Its mission is to enrich lives through dance performances, inclusive education and outreach programs and community partnerships. The company opened its downtown campus in 2024 after a capital campaign that raised more than $4.8 million against a $2.5 million goal. For the 2025-26 season it carries 24 dancers, including three apprentices and ten trainees, and ten staff, on a budget of over $2 million, presenting four evening-length productions plus a state-wide summer STEM tour. Alongside its training program, the campus hosts community offerings including free ballet lessons for Black and brown youth, movement classes for cancer survivors, touring-artist workshops and the sensory-friendly Ballet Without Barriers initiative, reaching around 15,000 people a year through more than 100 partners.
