Undermain Theatre presents Lonesome Blues, Akin Babatundé and Alan Govenar’s solo-performer meditation on the life and songs of Blind Lemon Jefferson: born blind, but ultimately able to express his deepest emotions through music.
Due to schedule conflicts, Undermain Theatre’s production of Lonesome Blues, Akin Babatundé and Alan Govenar’s solo-performer meditation on the life and songs of Blind Lemon Jefferson, is now being rescheduled from June to this coming September.
For their 38th season at Undermain they are creating an exciting array of diverse performance opportunities to inspire and enrich our community and support artists in North Texas. They hope to be able to offer live performances in addition to the virtual streaming videos for each production.
Undermain Theatre will be rescheduling the planned coproduction of Lonesome Blues to its upcoming 38th season. This decision was made in an effort to ensure that the production can be performed live and enjoyed by audiences as the live event it was created to be. We look forward to live audiences watching and enjoying the music of Blind Lemon Jefferson in the o historic Deep Ellum performance space. The rescheduled production dates will be announced soon.
At Undermain, we're planning for the future. For our 37th year of cutting-edge performances, Undermain is pleased to announce the season of the feminine hero. Plays about women will comprise the four central productions that make up the season.
Theater visionary, artist, founding artistic director of Dallas's Undermain Theatre and Texas Woman of distinction Katherine Owens has died after a five-month prolonged illness. She was 61 and lived in Dallas with her husband and artistic partner Bruce DuBose.
Undermain Theatre is at 3200 Main Street , Dallas, TX.
Undermain Theatre has brought cutting-edge theater to audiences in Dallas for over thirty years. The company was founded in 1984 by a group of artists who transformed a warehouse basement under Main Street in Dallas into a performance space and began producing experimental plays. Under the guidance of Founding Artistic Director Katherine Owens and Executive Producer Bruce DuBose, the company’s reputation grew in Dallas and beyond. The San Diego Union Tribune called Undermain “one of the best small theaters in America.” In 1995, during the siege of Sarajevo, Undermain was invited to tour neighboring Macedonia, where it performed to capacity crowds in Roman amphitheaters. Undermain then broadened its scope to produce six plays in New York, culminating in its original adaptation of Neil Young’s Greendale in 2008.
