Dallas Theater Center Continues Partnership with North Texas Food Bank

By: Oct. 25, 2011

Dallas Theater Center has announced it is partnering with the North Texas Food Bank for the fourth year in a row during the annual production of A Christmas Carol. DTC patrons have donated over $130,000 to the NTFB since the partnership began.

"A Christmas Carol is a long-standing tradition at Dallas Theater Center. We are thrilled that this tradition has expended to include a partnership with the North Texas Food Bank," says DTC Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty. "This partnership allows us to engage our audience outside of the theater and to increase awareness about the many faces of hunger. For the fourth year in a row, DTC is able to celebrate the spirit of this Dickens classic by partnering with our patrons to give to a worthy cause."

The DTC and NTFB partnership includes two days of volunteering at the NTFB warehouse, collecting monetary donations after each performance and providing a place for A Christmas Carol patrons to donate non-perishable food items to the Food Bank.

The North Texas Food Bank hopes to raise $7 million before the end of December. Holiday donations are critical to providing year-round aid to hungry North Texas and account for 50% of annual funds raised. 94 cents of every dollar given to the Food Bank supports the organization's mission.

"This is the most wonderful time of the year, especially due to the generosity of the Dallas Theater Center," said Jan Pruitt, president and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. "We have a goal of raising $7 million by December 31-nearly half of what we hope to raise in 2011-and we simply couldn't get there without the audience's support at A Christmas Carol. Now, like Scrooge, let's honor the spirit of the season in our hearts and never forget the lessons it teaches us -- because so many North Texans struggle with hunger year-round."
