Into the Woods opens South Coast Repertory's 2026-27 season, running as the latest installment in the theatre's American Icons series and marking the 40th anniversary of Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical. Directed by Peter Rothstein, the production reimagines beloved fairy-tale characters through Sondheim's score and Lapine's darkly comedic book. The musical explores themes of wishes, consequences, and what happens after "happily ever after," continuing to captivate audiences four decades after its debut.
