Kris Kringle, a man about to get kicked out of his retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macys. Kris unleashes waves of goodwill with Macys customers and the commercial world of New York City by referring parents to other stores to find exactly the toy their child has asked for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macys vocational counselor, Kris is sent off to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital. A court competency hearing raises doubt for many.
