Winter is in full swing, which also marks the beginning of my second semester of college. I learned a lot from my first semester: it was a big adjustment, but overall I would say it was pretty successful. I learned that I love the independence of college, although it comes with a lot of responsibility. For example, I need to manage my time properly so I don’t fall behind on assignments.

This semester, I’m taking five classes: macroeconomics, microeconomics, astronomy, public speaking, and math. I really like astronomy so far; the professor is engaging and makes the class fun. The content for that class is also really interesting to learn about, such as eclipses, light, and the moon. Right now it’s introductory information, but I enjoy learning it nonetheless. This class also has a lab, and I’ve enjoyed the experiments conducted. For example, in our first lab, we had to drop spheres into bins with a layer of flour and cinnamon to create craters, which was pretty fun.

On the other hand, my math class is more of a challenge. It’s an online asynchronous class, meaning lectures are not set at a specific time so I can watch the pre-recorded lectures whenever I’d like. This makes it a challenge because I have to manage my time to ensure I have time to watch the lectures. Aside from that, I have a pretty easy course load this semester, which I’m very grateful for.

So far, we’ve also gotten a lot of snow! It makes the campus look very pretty. However, it’s been very cold as well, which I’m not a fan of whatsoever. Most days it’s tolerable, but some days it’s unbearably cold, which is not enjoyable. However, what keeps me going is the fact that there are brighter and warmer days ahead. Soon it will be spring, which is my favorite season! I’m excited for the sun to be out longer and for the temperature to rise.

I’ve gotten more involved on campus this semester. Just like last semester, I am involved in the Husky Ambassador Program, which assists prospective students. I get to participate in admitted studet lunches and the Husky-for-a-Day program, which gives prospective students an insight into life on campus. I’m also involved in Dramatic PAWS, which is the drama club. We’re doing a production of Heathers this semester, which should be really fun! I'm in crew, which is a change for me. I’m used to performing on stage, but I figured it might be fun to work behind the scenes instead this time.

Overall, this semester seems very promising. I have a good course load and plenty of ways to stay involved. As long as I remain focused on my goals, this semester can be a very fulfilling one. In order for that to happen, I need to remain focused on my goals and stay productive, and then I will be successful.
