Oddfellows Playhouse Teen Company to Present THE TEMPEST

The Tempest will be performed at Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater, 128 Washington St. by the Teen Company opening on January 26th and closing on February 4th. Shows are on Thursdays and Fridays at 7pm, and Saturdays at 2pm. This show is recommended for ages 9 and up. Tickets now available at www.oddfellows.org or by calling 860 347 6143.

The Teen Company's production uses history as inspiration. Imagining if the Titanic's sister ship, the HMHS Britannic, which sunk in the Mediterranean in 1916, had been shipwrecked as part of a long simmering revenge plot, this Tempest highlights the clash of the haves and have-nots, an early 20th century interest in the occult and the timeless language and theatrical imagination of Shakespeare.

Directed by Kim West (Alliance Theater Atlanta, Hartford Arts Academy) the Teen Company features actors 14 - 19. All Oddfellows youth shows feature a fully designed production in our flexible black box theater. Tate R. Burmeister's set, Marion Imbruglio's costumes, Tina Louise Jones' lighting design, Chris Coffey's sound design and Luke Reinwald's technical direction will add depth and artistry to this production.

Established in 1975, Oddfellows is Connecticut's oldest and largest year-round youth theater. The Playhouse offers theater and circus classes, Theater Productions and each summer leads and produces the Children's Circus of Middletown.

Oddfellows Youth Theater is committed to ensuring that programs are accessible to all. Currently, 65% of all participating children receive financial aid, made possible through support from grants and generous donations from the community.

This spring, the Teen Company will mount a production of Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka, a contemporary re-telling of the Odyssey told through the eyes of a young immigrant searching for his mother who left to work in America when he was a child. Reserve your audition spot now at www.oddfellows.org.
