At the dawn of a new century, everything is changing… and anything is possible. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together – that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician – united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Nominated for 13 Tony Awards including Best Musical, complete with a live 9-piece orchestra and over 30 professional actors onstage, Ragtime is a beautiful and ever-relevant piece that confronts history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America.
CONTENT ADVISORY: This production includes strong language, including profanity as well as the use of racial slurs (the "N-word," and other epithets); depictions and descriptions of violence and death, including depictions of violence against immigrants and African Americans; and one suggestive musical number (not explicit). The uses of these themes is in service to the storytelling of the piece and its historical accuracy. We highly encourage anyone bringing youth to the production to have a conversation about the content ahead of time and encourage them to reach out to CCT for additional resources to start a dialogue surrounding the challenging themes portrayed.
NOTES: Saturday, September 30 @ 2p will offer both sign interpretation and audio description. Besting seating for ASL is available; see house staff on the day of show for audio description devices. The September 29 @ 10a is being sold directly through CCT and inquiries should be directed to info@columbuschildrenstheatre.org.
