Sharif is a gripping new drama about a queer Palestinian man forced to flee the West Bank after being outed by Israel's security services. Seeking asylum in Israel – a place that is both refuge and threat – Sharif must navigate a maze of bureaucracy, suspicion, and stigma, all while haunted by the memory of Nour, the secret lover he left behind.
Told through interwoven flashbacks and present-day scenes, the play explores survival, forbidden love, and quiet resilience.
Based on real testimonies, Sharif offers a rare, urgent look at LGBTQ+ Palestinians living under occupation – a powerful call for empathy, justice, and human dignity.
Fresh off its London debut, Dirty Laundry Theatre will present the U.S. premiere staged reading of SHARIF شريف at the BorderLight Theatre Festival in Cleveland, Ohio, from July 17–19, 2025.
