Western Reserve Playhouse presents intergenerational GODSPELL that asks — what happens when people from all walks of life come together to create a community?

Western Reserve Playhouse is proud to announce the cast of Godspell, Stephen Schwartz's beloved musical that transforms a group of strangers into a community through storytelling, music, laughter, and acts of kindness. Since its premiere in 1971, Godspell has become one of the most beloved family musicals ever written, inviting audiences of all ages to participate in a theatrical experience that is equal parts celebration, comedy, and heartfelt reflection.

Directed by WRP Education Director Emma Figge (Seussical the Musical, Spitfire Grill), with music direction by Robert Kowalewski (john & jen, Jekyll & Hyde) and choreography by Mayela Lucia Squires (The Outsiders, The Wild Party), this production embraces the playful spirit and ensemble-driven heart that have made Godspell a favorite for generations. Built around a powerhouse ensemble, this full-hearted musical asks: what happens when people from all walks of life come together to create a community? Through a series of parables, games, songs, and moments of connection, the show explores themes of compassion, forgiveness, joy, and belonging.

That sense of community extends beyond the story itself. This year's cast includes multiple families performing together, with parents and children sharing the stage as part of the same company. The result is a production that reflects the very themes at the heart of Godspell: connection, mentorship, laughter, and the relationships that bring people together.

Leading the company are Carson Reitz as Jesus and Benjamin Lowery as Judas. They are joined by an ensemble that brings together familiar WRP faces alongside performers making their Western Reserve Playhouse debuts. The company includes Rachael Armbuster, Amy Aust, Molly Aust, Nina Aust, Isaac Bauman, Shelia Baronwright, Amy Bodnar, Maeve Greising, Kate League-Weston, Maisie League-Weston, Connor Mast, Rose McMillan, Lauren Stepanski, and Isabel Valega.

As Western Reserve Playhouse continues its commitment to community-centered theatre, Godspell serves as a fitting reminder of the power of gathering together. The musical's message of empathy, understanding, and shared humanity resonates just as strongly today as it did more than fifty years ago. Filled with unforgettable songs including "Day by Day", "All Good Gifts", and “Bless the Lord”, the production offers an uplifting experience for audiences seeking laughter, inspiration, and connection.

Godspell opens with a July 16 Preview and runs through July 26, 2026, at Western Reserve Playhouse, 3326 Everett Road in Bath, Ohio. Performances take place Thursday through Sunday throughout the run. Tickets go on sale June 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM EST. Subscribers receive early access to tickets before the public on-sale date. Seating is limited in WRP's intimate historic barn venue.
