El Romántico at Julia de Burgos Cultural Art Center

El Romántico is Julia Rosa Sosa debut musical supported by The Creative Impact Fund, administered by Assembly for the Arts and funded by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. , "El Romántico," a heartfelt exploration of the intricate bond between fathers and daughters during the tumultuous teenage years. Set against the backdrop of shifting family dynamics, Sosa's musical aims to tug at the heartstrings while offering a poignant reflection on the power of music to bridge emotional divides.

In El Romántico, audiences are invited into an intimate world of a hardworking father and his daughter, who find themselves drifting apart amidst the challenges of adapting to a new life in a foreign city. As the daughter grapples with the complexities of adolescence, we also see over time the challenges that her father faced. However, they discover a newfound connection to her father through an unexpected source: his music.

Sosa invites you to be part of the development of her first musical. The play is still in development, and she would like to invite you to watch the stage reading and help shape the future of the play. The play is in Spanish with supertitles in English.

The cast includes: Bridgett Martinez, Monica Cerpa, Nathalie Bermudez, Adamaris Chávez, Sunami Rodríguez, and Julia Chaparro. Music by Olaf Sosa, Maic Corral, and Julia Rosa Sosa Chaparro. Staged Managed by Dylan Todd Brown.

Julia Sosa, whose own father's passing in 2021 inspired and fueled her creative journey, imbues "El Romántico" with a deeply personal touch. "He was a songwriter who taught me so much about music," reflects Sosa. "Creating this piece was a way for me to honor his memory and explore the profound impact of father-daughter relationships. In this piece, my dad ended up working with me since many of his songs will be used."
