Good Bones is a new American opera with music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Michael Abels and libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright James Ijames, based on Ijames's play of the same name. The opera follows Aisha and her husband Travis, who return to her historically Black childhood neighborhood to renovate an old house, only to find the homecoming more complicated than expected as they contend with a neighbor named Earl and the spirit of Sister Bernice, the house's original owner. The production will be staged by Timothy Douglas and conducted by Kelly Kuo. It is the third and final work in Cincinnati Opera's Black Opera Project, a trilogy of commissioned world premieres celebrating the Black American experience.
