The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will continue its Marx Theatre season with the classic Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman comedy, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU begins previews in The Playhouse's Robert S. Marx Theatre October 16 and continues through November 13.

When the rich, straight-laced parents of Tony Kirby encounter the delightfully eccentric family of his fiancée, Alice Sycamore, the result is a wildly funny clash of family values in which fireworks erupt - literally! YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU is a light-hearted romp about love, family and what's really important in life.

First performed in 1936, the Hart/Kaufman play was their most successful collaboration, and has enjoyed enduring popularity through several generations of theatre-goers. Hart and Kaufman produced eight plays during their decade-long partnership, including The Man Who Came to Dinner, which was presented at The Playhouse in 1980. YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU is a co-production of the Cincinnati Playhouse and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.

The cast for YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU includes veteran Playhouse favorite Joneal Joplin (The Fantasticks; Travels of Angelica; Othello; A Christmas Carol, King Lear and Wit, among many others) as the patriarch Grandpa Martin Vanderhof; Tony Campisi (Durango, Men on the Take) as Paul Sycamore; Stephanie Cozart (The Crucible, The Syringa Tree) as Essie Carmichael; Benjamin Eakeley (Marry Me a Little) as Tony Kirby; Jeffrey Hayenga as Mr. Kirby; Barbara Kingsley as Mrs. Kirby and Grand Duchess Olga Katrina; Jamie LaVerdiere as Ed Carmichael;

Todd Lawson (Stone My Heart, A Christmas Carol) as Henderson and The Man; Rachel Leslie as Rheba; Anderson Matthews (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, A Flea in Her Ear, Ten Little Indians and Coyote on a Fence, among others) as Boris Kolenkhov; Amelia McClain as Alice Sycamore; Scott Schafer (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula) as Mr. DePinna; Carol Schultz (The Underpants; Ah, Wilderness!; The Little Foxes; Our Country's Good; Our Town) as Penny Sycamore; Amy Warner (Reckless, A Christmas Carol, Twelfth Night) as Gay Wellington; Scott Whitehurst (Spunk, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, A Midsummer Night's Dream) as Donald; and Matthew David Gellin and Colin Gold as the G-Men.

Steven Woolf, the Artistic Director of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis since 1986, will direct YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU. For the Cincinnati Playhouse, he has also directed The Crucible, Skylight, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial and The Voice of the Prairie. According to Woolf, "Though it is set in 1930s America, somehow there are still comments that make it sound bracingly modern. It is a remarkable play in American theatre simply because it never goes out of fashion. Audiences are in for a lot of heart, comedy, wisdom and silliness, and above all, a night full of joy."

The design team for YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU includes Set Designer John Ezell, Costume Designer Elizabeth Covey, Lighting Designer Peter E. Sargent and Sound Designer Rusty Wandall. The Production Stage Manager is Jenifer Morrow.
