The Marriage of Figaro at Nineteenth Century Charitable Association

Bellissima Opera presents a new production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, directed by Carl Ratner and adapted by Christine Steyer, which places four historical figures — Mozart, librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, playwright Pierre Beaumarchais, and Emperor Joseph II — alongside the action to explore the censorship and political struggle that nearly prevented the opera from reaching the stage. José Luis Maldonado, hailed by Opera News for his 'seemingly unlimited baritone,' stars in the title role of Figaro, with Marissa Howard as Susanna, Caden Cole as Count Almaviva, and Christine Steyer as the Countess. Set during a single 'mad day,' the opera follows servants Figaro and Susanna as they outwit Count Almaviva and demonstrate that intelligence, integrity, and love can triumph over status and power. The production is performed in Italian with English supertitles and runs approximately three hours including intermission.
