Muntu Dance Theatre performs authentic and progressive interpretations of contemporary and ancient African and African-American dance, music, and folklore. Their highly innovative repertory preserves traditional African dance while creating new works that build on African, Caribbean and African-American cultural traditions. Deeply Rooted Dance Theater reimagines and diversifies the aesthetics of contemporary dance by uniting modern, classical, American, and African-American traditions in dance and storytelling; rooted in traditions of American and African-American dance, storytelling, and universal themes.
Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, and its parent organization, Deeply Rooted Productions, have commenced 2023 with significant developments in its evolution, as the organization continues to grow as one of Chicago's premier dance institutions.
Deeply Rooted Productions (DRP), the umbrella organization of Deeply Rooted Dance Theater (DRDT), is restructuring its administrative management team to support its growth during its 25th year. Jacquelyn Smiley Robinson has resigned from her position as managing director, effective December 11, 2020.
Deeply Rooted Dance Theater with its “Deeply 25 Beyond Dance” 25th anniversary season in progress, is continuing its successful digital class program with a new term beginning in January 2021. Registration opens December 1.
Due to the mandated restrictions on public gatherings, and with the health and safety of our audiences, artists and supporters in mind, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater has made the difficult decision to postpone the world premiere of GOSHEN, our collaboration with GRAMMY Award-winning gospel musician Donald Lawrence and Broadway in Chicago scheduled May 22a?"31 at the Broadway Playhouse.
