American ballet company Dance Theatre of Harlem returns to Chicago for the first time since 2016, presenting a trio of works from its repertoire. The program includes Firebird, a reimagining of the traditional ballet set in a Caribbean world with choreography by John Taras and designs by Geoffrey Holder, revived with recreated sets and costumes by Leo Holder. Also featured are Donizetti Variations, choreographed by George Balanchine to music by Gaetano Donizetti, and Return, choreographed by DTH Artistic Director Robert Garland, set to music by James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
