Written and Performed by: Angelina Llongueras (based on her own texts and excerpts from Arundathi Roy and Phoolan Devi)Directed by: Raquel Capdet
Cast: Angelina Llongueras
Phoolan is all of us: In Memory of Phoolan Devi is one woman show conceived as a homage to Phoolan Devi. Phoolan Devi was an Indian woman of low caste, who was a bandit, a member of Parliament, and a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was murdered in 2001.
Performed in both English and Catalan Phoolan is "document-theatre," with a style close to expressionism. The two characters in the piece blend into each other in a process of grieving and liberation that brings us closer to Phoolan Devi's spirit, and helps us recognize the obstacles and challenges of making ourselves heard.
Angelina Llongueras is an actress, playwright, director and theater researcher with more than 20 years experience in the scenic arts in a continuous bridge between both Europe and the Americas . She is also the author of a book about theater in indigenous Mexican culture.
Opens: Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 8 PM. Closes: Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 8 PM.Runs: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 PM.Admission: $10
