Full Cast Announced for Guthrie's 'Peer Gynt'

By:

The Guthrie today announced complete casting for the world premiere adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt starring Mark Rylance. Former Shakespeare's Globe Associate Director Tim Carroll will direct this new adaptation by prolific poet and Minnesota native Robert Bly. Peer Gynt begins previews January 12 and runs through March 2 on the Wurtele Thrust Stage. Tickets are priced from $24 to $69 and are on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, toll-free 877.44.STAGE and online at www.guthrietheater.org.

In addition to the previously announced Rylance, the 19-member ensemble includes many familiar Guthrie faces. On the heels of their performance in the American premiere of The Home Place, Matthew Amendt and Richard S. Iglewski join their Merchant of Venice cast mates Jim Lichtscheidl and Michelle O'Neill. Audiences will recognize Jonas Goslow and Isabell Monk O'Connor, who most recently appeared in last season's Major Barbara, Tracey Maloney and Bill McCallum from Joe Dowling's 2007 production of The Glass Menagerie, and Tyson Forbes from this past summer's hit musical 1776.

The ensemble also includes Maha Chehlaoui and Miriam Silverman, as well as children's cast members Marisa Jacobus and Jake Speikers, all of whom will make their Guthrie debut.

Local actors Richard Ooms, Catherine Johnson Justice and Phyllis Wright mark their return to the Guthrie, with this their first appearances in the new building, rounding out the ensemble alongside current Jane Eyre children's cast members Mac Rasmus and Alexis Gaither.

The Peer Gynt artistic staff includes Laura Hopkins (Set and Costume Designer), Stan Pressner (Lighting Designer), Scott W. Edwards (Sound Designer), Claire Van Kampen (Composer), Carla Steen (Dramaturg), Lucinda Holshue (Voice and Dialect Coach), Marcela Lorca (Movement), Chris A. Code (Stage Manager), Michele Harms (Assistant Stage Manager) and Ben McGovern (Assistant Director).

The Guthrie is located at 818 South 2nd Street (at Chicago Avenue), in downtown Minneapolis. To purchase tickets or season subscriptions call the Guthrie Box Office between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily at 612.377.2224 or toll-free 877.44.STAGE.
