The Chicago Sinfonietta, under the leadership of Music Director Mei-Ann Chen, announces programming for its 2013-2014 season, which includes five concerts that move beyond the pure classical cannon and encompass music styles from around the globe and across the eras, including urban, gospel, Hispanic, Chinese, Klezmer and electronica.

Highlights of the season include a collaboration with Chicago-based hip-hip dance troupes FootworKINGz and Kuumba Lynx; annual seasonal tributes to the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead and DR. Martin Luther King, Jr.; a global and genre crossover with the Bhangra-inspired DJ Rehka; a North American Premiere by Dutch "avant pop" composer Jacob ter Veldhuis (aka Jacob TV); and a unique tribute to the Silk Road, uniting Chinese and Jewish musical inspirations, featuring the Chicago Premiere of Michael Gordon Shapiro and Victor Cheng's Identity: Zhongshang Zhuang. Guest artists throughout the season include Redmoon Theater, DJ Rehka, the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, guzheng virtuoso Su Chang, soprano Elizabeth Norman, violinist Ade Williams, the Apostolic Church of God Sanctuary Choir, the DePaul University Choir, the Roosevelt University Choir, and guest conductors Alexandra Arieche and Joseph Young.

Maestro Chen notes, "The Chicago Sinfonietta has always programmed some of the most innovative concerts presented by any orchestra in the country. The 2013-2014 Season takes this legacy of adventurous programming to a whole new level and is central to our goal of redefining what the symphonic experience is, and can be. The repertoire, guest artists, and partners have been chosen so that each concert becomes a one-of-a-kind, can't-miss experience."

The Sinfonietta performs all five of its subscription concerts in the western suburbs as well as in Chicago. The Sinfonietta's suburban home is the Wentz Concert Hall of North Central College, 171 E. Chicago Avenue in Naperville, while downtown Chicago concerts take place in Orchestra Hall of Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Avenue.
