Tuesday, April 10

As a girl, Ana Moura was steeped in fado, the Portuguese answer to the blues, and its traditions. She was brought up in a family where the music was valued and loved, sung at home and at family gatherings. Mixing traditional forms with so-called "musical fado," in which other songs are given the emotional treatment, Moura edged towards the pop mainstream, singing with the Rolling Stones and Prince. Her solo recordings have topped charts and her global concert tours are consistent sellouts. Moura's career is currently the most vibrant and thriving of any other Portuguese performer, as evidenced by the 300,000 records she has sold and her nearly one dozen awards which include two Golden Globes, two Amália awards and one Best Artist nomination from the Songlines Music Awards.
