Do It Yourself is a contemporary dance work choreographed by Hillel Kogan, placing performer Danielle Agami at the center of an identity discourse that examines how female identity is constructed, negotiated, and performed within Western culture. Drawing from Agami's personal biography spanning Israeli, American, Moroccan, and European identities, the piece unfolds as a sequence of situations in which identity is questioned, misinterpreted, and redefined. Through dance, spoken text, rap, and storytelling, the work confronts familiar social interrogations about gender, origin, and cultural expectations imposed on female bodies. Inspired by the figure of Scheherazade from One Thousand and One Nights, the piece reimagines survival through storytelling, intelligence, and imagination, creating a space where contradictions coexist and identity remains open and fluid.
