DARLIN’ — A World Premiere at Bridge Street Theatre!
Mothers. Daughters. Family secrets. And a whole lot of unfinished business.
Bridge Street Theatre presents the world premiere of “DARLIN’,” a wickedly funny, wildly imaginative new play by two-time PEN USA Award in Drama recipient Michelle Carter, November 5–15, 2026, in Catskill, NY.
Kate has just lost the teaching job that defined her life for nearly three decades. Her 82-year-old mother, Liza, is nearing the end of hers—and remains as stubborn, sharp-tongued, and magnificently difficult as ever. Between them lie decades of arguments, resentments, and extravagant family stories that Kate knows aren't true. Or are they?
Enter Wendell, an unconventional caregiver with a gift for seeing things differently. Suddenly, Kate finds herself swept into 1958 San Francisco, where a sixteen-year-old Liza is about to meet the mother who abandoned her. What follows is a deliciously unpredictable journey through three generations of women, where family legends unravel, old wounds resurface, and the truth proves stranger—and much funnier—than fiction.
With razor-sharp dialogue, inventive storytelling, and an enormous heart, “DARLIN’” is a hilarious, surprising, and deeply moving exploration of the people who make us who we are—even when they drive us absolutely crazy.
Developed in part at Bridge Street Theatre, the production is directed by Katy Early and features Barbara Pitts, Amanda Duarte, and Phil Mansfield.
Performances: November 5–15, 2026, Thursday–Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. November 5 is a pay-what-you-wanna preview.
Bridge Street Theatre, 44 West Bridge Street, Catskill, NY.
