ACT BLACK: POSTERS FROM BLACK AMERICAN STAGE & SCREEN to Host Live Tin Pan Alley Performance
Singer Gabrielle Lee and music director Robert Lamont will perform at POSTER HOUSE MUSEUM.
Poster House Museum, in association with the Tin Pan Alley American Popular Music Project, will present Tin Pan Alley and Black American Music on June 18.
The program will feature singer, actress, producer, and writer Gabrielle Lee alongside musical director and pianist Robert Lamont. Through live performance and historical storytelling, the event will examine the relationship between Tin Pan Alley and the New York stage, focusing on the contributions of Black composers, lyricists, publishers, and performers between 1890 and 1910.
The evening will highlight the emergence of Black-owned publishing houses on West 28th Street and the Broadway productions that helped establish this music within the American popular song tradition. The presentation also explores how the sheet music and poster art featured in Poster House's exhibition ACT BLACK: Posters from Black American Stage and Screen contributed to shaping popular culture in the United States and abroad.
Stories of influential women who helped define American musical theater and popular song during the period will also be featured.
Lee has performed on Broadway, national tours, concert stages, film, and television, and has developed projects focused on preserving and highlighting the contributions of Black artists to American music history.
Lamont is a musical director, arranger, and pianist whose work spans musical theater and American song traditions. He has collaborated with performers and cultural institutions throughout New York and specializes in the music of Tin Pan Alley and early Broadway.

Tin Pan Alley and Black American Music will take place on June 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Poster House Museum, 119 West 23rd Street in New York City. Tickets are available through Poster House.
