LIZZY SUNSHINE Will Return to NYC at SoHo Playhouse
Comedian Liz Coin's solo show blends clown, character comedy, and audience participation to explore loving someone with addiction
Following performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, comedian, actor, and writer Liz Coin will bring her solo show Lizzy Sunshine back to New York for a limited engagement at SoHo Playhouse from May 6–16.
Arriving in NYC during Mental Health Awareness Month, Lizzy Sunshine is a fast-paced, interactive comedy that explores a rarely discussed perspective: what it means to love someone struggling with addiction—and the emotional coping mechanisms that come with it.
Blending clown, character comedy, and audience participation, the show follows Lizzy, a relentlessly optimistic performer determined to keep her show—and her reality—intact, even as everything begins to unravel. When her onstage partner fails to appear, Lizzy turns to the audience to help carry the performance forward, creating a chaotic and deeply human theatrical experience.
At its core, Lizzy Sunshine examines “toxic positivity” as both a comedic device and a survival strategy. “Being the little sister of addiction turned me into Lizzy Sunshine—a clown, a cheerleader, a hope-filled hype woman,” says Coin. “Loving someone with addiction feels like being cast in a show you didn't audition for.”
The production has resonated with audiences internationally for its balance of humor and emotional honesty, earning multiple five-star reviews during its Edinburgh run and building a reputation as a standout in the solo comedy space. The NYC engagement precedes a planned return to the UK and continued development of the piece for screen adaptation.
Coin, a The Second City alum and graduate of Northwestern University, has appeared across television and digital platforms including NBC, Prime Video, and Tubi, and has built a following for her high-energy, character-driven comedy.
